I bought a pair of these for my lab x border collie and australian shepard mix. They are not hunting dogs, but we spend a lot of time outside during the Montana winters. I have been looking for something to protect their paws when temperatures start heading towards zero. I've tried three other brands of boots with the same result...they come off in the deep snow. Sometimes I find the missing boot, sometimes I don't.
When I first spotted the Avery boots I thought the high neoprene uppers and multiple-wrap velcro straps would be just the ticket. And they just might be, if you have a dog with thick stout legs. After carefully measuring their paws as instructed, I ordered the XL for my 65lb dog and the L for my 45 lb dog. When the boots arrived I quickly noticed two things 1) the boots were a struggle to put on and 2) the neoprene uppers were HUGE. I had to double the neoprene back on itself and wrap the strap around about 4 times and there was still half a wrap left over just flopping around with nothing to attach it to. I double checked my measurements to be sure I had not screwed up. I also checked for extra space around their paws to be sure the boots were the right size. I even tried putting the smaller boot on the larger dog.
I cannot comment on the outdoor performance of these boots because we never left the house with them. I packed them into a box and sent them back to Stan at Marley Sporting Dogs. He was great to work with. These may be great boots for dogs with thick stout legs, but my two girls have what appears to be standard size dog legs. So, the search continues.
